Sarah Watts, Clarinet

Sarah Watts studied with Angela Malsbury , Victoria Soames Samak and Richard Addison at the Royal Academy of Music before studying solo bass clarinet with Henri Bok at the Rotterdam Conservatoire where she was awarded the Exxon Prize for the best classical music student.

Successes include: Winner, UK Howarth Clarinet Competition, Winner, Hawkes Clarinet Prize (RAM), Winner of Wind Section and Faber Prize, UK Performing Australian Music Competition.

Sarah is one of the UK’s only specialist bass clarinet soloists. With the intention of increasing its popularity as a solo instrument Sarah has attracted many composers to write new works for her, has given repertoire and composition classes at several music conservatoires in the UK and Ireland and performed a solo bass clarinet Recital in London ’s Purcell Room as part of the Park Lane Group’s Young Artists Series.

Sarah was a solo artist on the UK’s Live Music Now Scheme, and is currently a member of rarescale and the Southwell Collective. Her bass clarinet and piano duo SCAW has just released their first CD SCAWFELL on the clarinet classics label and also hold an annual solo bass clarinet course on the Isle of Raasay in the Scottish Hebrides.
